BIO
Carole McClintock is a versatile artist, who blends modern impressionism with her expressive painting style. The water-themed creations that she is known for, are inspired by a lifetime of engagement with the water as a competitive swimmer, surfer, sailor, and scuba diver.
McClintock was brought up in California, where living near the ocean with the luminous light and vibrant colors of the West made a lasting impression. Her alluring paintings have graced the walls of numerous distinguished collectors and galleries worldwide.
The artist earned her Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Studio Art from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. Spending a transformative year at the Sorbonne in Paris, she immersed herself in sketching from Old Masters at the Louvre, collaborating with accomplished French painters, and exploring art museums across Europe. More recently, she has studied at the Silvermine Guild in Connecticut and the Art Students League in New York City.
Her aspiration is for individuals to connect with her work, and share the passion that fuels her process.
She is currently working on several series of work inspired by poppies, lily pads, the sea, koi fish, and the sky that continue to evolve. Artist Statement 2023
When I’m not physically at my easel, I am painting in my mind. Everywhere I go in the world, I see moments in time. Dappled light and shadow, reflections on the water, a warm embrace. When I return to my studio to work, I’m exploding with ideas of what to create.
I like to let the viewer have their own interpretation of what they see in my work; …is it sunrise or sunset? …can elephants really swim? …is that Central Park or the Tuileries? Also, to let the viewer feel what they see, an impression of fish swimming, the magic of poppies dancing in a field, or being floating on the sea.
My formal art education has given me a base to create intuitively, less trapped by having to think about the basics of composition, color, values, and structure. After decades of painting, I am blessed to have arrived at an exciting place in my art career where creating a painting comes naturally.
Overall, I trust that my work will intrigue the spirit, calm one’s soul and offer a place of refuge, uncommon in our everyday lives.
